I have no need for sports. [Other than Chess, that is. Can that be called a sport, though?] Yet I have this strange desire to...play.

Perhaps Fencing will appease me.

[His voice is thoughtful, almost as if he can't believe he is saying these words.]

Find me a suitable partner, Sebastian, or Fence with me yourself.

I understand necessity, but it's at least more satisfying when you have something to look forward to as well.

You mean there are thing you cannot do here that you'd normally be forced to do?

Mm. [He shuffles some papers.] Attending balls, galas and other parties isn't necessary here. Additionally, I do not have to worry about my fiancee. [Though he does that anyway. Secretly.]

[She simply nods until that last part, then there is a look of surprise.] You are engaged Earl?

I am. Her name is Lady Elizabeth Ethel Cordelia Middleford and she is my cousin.

[She could quesion this but decides against it. It's not her place to judge, and she doubted Ciel would go ahead with this if he really protested the idea.] Congratulations Earl.

[He knows he will never be wed to Elizabeth. She will, eventually, have to accept his death when his Contract with Sebastian comes to an end.]

It is what it is.

[A sad thing indeed. Harder since he does care for her in a way yes?]

Another valid reason for you to return home.

[He cares for her in the only way he can. She is one of his last surviving family members and...he does want to see her happy.]

Yet not the greatest reason.

[It is nice to notice he does have a few soft spots here and there.]

If you say so Earl. [Her way of noting it's not her business and she shouldn't pry.]

[He hums for a moment.]

I know I won't live long.

[Excuse her, she's just going to stare silently. She needs a moment to process a response, that just shocked her too much.]

Life can only last so long.

[She's still silent for a moment, before murmuring something to herself. Depending on how interested Ciel is, he migh be able to catch some of it.] A sound soul...dwells within a sound mind, and a sound body.

[After another brief pause, she finally turns to speak directly to the Earl.] It's still something to predict your own lifespan. Not even shinigami can be that accurate.

I...know you'll make the most of your time no matter what though. [Trying to be positive, since she knows all too well in seeing souls being reaped that death can be unfair.]

[He arches a brow and leans in closer.]

That sounds like a quote. Where did you hear that?

[His expression becomes a little bitter.]

Whether I die by the hand of an enemy or another force entirely has yet to be decided. Either way, I know it will happen soon.

[A snort.] Time passes quickly no matter how well one prepares.

[She takes a moment to think on the best way to explain it.]It's the first principle taught to meisters and weapons. It's the basis for learning to distinguish between human souls and kishin eggs when we perceive souls.

[She can only watch him, closing her eyes as she speaks. Tsubaki knows she probably can't convince him, but feels the need to voice her thoughts.] You seem terribly certain. It might just be my perspective, but no one can be accurate in such predictions. Then again, my home understandings probably do not apply to other worlds.

[Bows her head slightly, sincere, but somehow still honest and firm.] I hope I'm not speaking out of turn, but that is my opinion.

You...[His voice softens. Strange.]...are unaware of all the factors that will lead to my death. It is certain and it will be relatively soon. Then again, as long as I am here, my death has been put on hold, so to speak.

[Unless Sebastian chose to break his own guidelines and devour Ciel's soul here and now.]

I see.

[Another pause, and with a soft, calm look, she replies, watching the Earl, but also gazing within him.]

Well...the only other thing I can say is that whatever happens, I believe the strength of your soul will aid you.

[It's not said, but from the slightly knowing look on her features, it's clear that, despite Tsubaki isn't as perceptive in reading souls as others, she has the basic sense to detect and feel them. Being around Ciel so much, means she has a fairly tuned reading from his soul wavelength, which she is currently perceiving as she speaks.]

That goes without saying. [Ciel has never even contemplated failure. His soul is strong because he believes in himself. (It certainly doesn't hurt that he has an immortal being on his side, though.)]

Perhaps I will tell you the story one day.

I mean that quite literally Earl. My perception may not be as acute as others I know, but your soul wavelength is strong, that much I can tell.

[On hearing his words, she bows her head respectfully.]

In that case, I will look forward to when that day may come. [Admittedly she's a bit surprised he would consider such a thing, but appreciates the gesture all the same.]

You possess an impressive gift. It could come in handy one day.

[He waves his hand.]

I can foresee a day when it might become necessary for you to know. But that day hasn't come yet.

It's not really a gift, it's a common skill of meisters and weapons.

[After raising her head, she smiles softly at him.]

Then I shall wait for the time you see fit that I need to know Earl.

It may be common in your world, but it is a rare skill in the City.

[He nods stiffly.]
