What a pointless day.
[There is a lengthy pause before he starts writing again.]
I can only imagine how she would react to this change in scenery. [He doesn't think about Elizabeth terribly often, but it's hard not to when the city transforms itself into such a girlish paradise.] It's best that she's not here. I'm certain I would hurt her feelings by calling all of this a waste of time. But it is.
It's like any other holiday. It will come and go quickly enough; and only those who have a reason for celebrating it will recall it.
I'm pleased I'm not one of those. [Or is he? Ciel likes lying to himself as well.]

At least my manor will remain unblemished by gaudy decorations.
